</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It's February! How are everyone's New Year's resolutions going? In miserable Syracuse it is snowing about a foot an hour so I plan on hibernating until Spring Break. You may have seen my post a few days ago about how <i>Vegucated</i> kicked my butt into green eating gear. If you're snowed in too, check out my round up of Netflix's best food and health documentaries. If you were straying from any resolutions these films are all so incredible and inspiring to keep you on track! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<strong><em>1. Super Size Me</em></strong></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<strong><em> </em></strong><iframe width="320" height="266" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://ytimg.googleusercontent.com/vi/I1Lkyb6SU5U/0.jpg" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/I1Lkyb6SU5U?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<em>Super Size Me</em> is a nutrition documentary classic and the
perfect gateway film to start your health movie binge. This fast paced
film will leave you shocked, horrified, and somehow still craving French
fries. This film uncovers some seriously disturbing secrets of
America’s agricultural, meatpacking, and fast food industries that will
leave you wondering if anything has changed since Upton Sinclair’s <em>The Jungle. </em></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<em><b>2. </b></em><em><b><strong><em>Vegucated</em></strong></b> </em></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe width="320" height="266" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://ytimg.googleusercontent.com/vi/GKzng1_byMY/0.jpg" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/GKzng1_byMY?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe><strong> </strong></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Veganism can get a bad rap. Popular media can make it easy to assume
that being vegan consists of eating tofu and hugging trees, but <em>Vegucated</em> takes an honest and unpretentious look at a vegan lifestyle. <em>Vegucated</em>
follows three die-hard NYC meat lovers who agree to go vegan for six
weeks. Documenting that yes, it can be frustrating to not be able to
find a vegan option on a dinner menu, but that overall a vegan lifestyle
is a healthy and possibly necessary option for a greener planet. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>3. </b><strong><em>Food Inc.</em></strong> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe width="320" height="266" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://ytimg.googleusercontent.com/vi/5eKYyD14d_0/0.jpg" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/5eKYyD14d_0?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe><strong><em></em></strong> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Did you know that the modern supermarket has on average 47,000
products? Or that the average American eats of 200 pounds of meat per
year? Food Inc. has 94 minutes worth of facts that will have you
rattling the dinner table. While <em>Super Size Me</em> will show you the horrors of the fast food industry, <em>Food Inc</em>. takes a close look at the ethics behind your daily groceries like fruit and vegetables.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>4. </b><strong><em>GMO OMG </em></strong></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe width="320" height="266" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://ytimg.googleusercontent.com/vi/ynyB2fNn8kQ/0.jpg" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/ynyB2fNn8kQ?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
GMO, USDA, CDC, what the heck do these even mean? By the end of this
film you’ll not only know, but you’ll be carefully checking the label of
everything in your fridge for these little letters. GMO stands for
Genetically Modified Organism and unfortunately; the little buggers are
in almost every non-organic food—OMG!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>5. </b><strong><em>TEDTalks: Chew On This – </em><em>Jamie Oliver’s TED Prize Wish: Teach Every Child About Food</em></strong> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe width="320" height="266" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://ytimg.googleusercontent.com/vi/go_QOzc79Uc/0.jpg" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/go_QOzc79Uc?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe><strong><em> </em></strong></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
OK, this isn’t really a documentary but what chef (and self-proclaimed superhero) Jamie Oliver has to say is <em>important</em>.
At the rate America is eating, today’s children will live, on average,
10 years less than their parents. But Oliver is hopeful that with a
little education, this all can change. Diet-related disease is the
biggest killer in the United States today and he wants to put an end to
it by educating Americans on why what your putting into your body is the
one of the most important decisions that you can make.</div>

Like madly in love with it. But trendy spin classes can put a real dent in your wallet. SoulCycle
averages about $30 per ride depending on location, and its competitor
Flywheel can charge you anywhere from $30 to $35. So you’d be wise to
make sure that you’re doing everything you can to get your money’s worth
out of your workout. Unluckily (or luckily for my wallet) there aren't any dedicated spinning studios in the Syracuse area. What I was excited to find out, however, is that SU actually offers a spin class for one credit! I'm getting graded for work out, woohoo! I interviewed my awesome spin instructor and health and fitness specialist, Maggie Thomson for her top five tips for getting the most out of
your spin session.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUixwpwvw14NAWc71Un1pUsA02GSDmFHoFA5UaDjLcvZnUyzaZHnOhify93NymMOQ9W_l5xcqhKHzszZneUWc2ZDQV1BOI3bYmEpYms5T9CcQL49bqD9cw5lvX3LgSZDqNJLqP7W3o_kU/s1600/bodies.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUixwpwvw14NAWc71Un1pUsA02GSDmFHoFA5UaDjLcvZnUyzaZHnOhify93NymMOQ9W_l5xcqhKHzszZneUWc2ZDQV1BOI3bYmEpYms5T9CcQL49bqD9cw5lvX3LgSZDqNJLqP7W3o_kU/s1600/bodies.jpg" height="424" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<strong>1. Nourish first: </strong>A car wouldn’t run without gas, so
why should you? “If you exercise on an empty stomach, you will be
lightheaded and not get the most out of your workout,” says Thomson.
Snack on something healthy and full of protein before class, like
oatmeal with banana or an English muffin with almond butter.<br />
<br />
<strong>2. Listen to your body: </strong>Thomson constantly reminds
students to listen to their bodies in order to avoid injury. “You always
want to listen to your body when you are doing any type of exercise,
especially cycling. It can be very challenging and if you are having a
tired day, you need to take it lighter. If you have a lot of energy you
can push yourself more,” she says. It’s easy to be distracted by the
seasoned expert in the bike next to you, but focus on your own goals and
challenge yourself accordingly.<br />
<br />
<strong>3. Watch your posture:</strong> “Proper set up of your bike
is crucial to protecting your knees and your lower back,” says Thomson.
“You never want to have your toes pointed when you cycle. Your toes
should be pulled back, pulling and pushing with your hamstrings on a
flat foot.” A pointed toe takes the workout away from your leg muscles,
but a flat foot engages the glutes and hips while reducing pressure on
quads and knees.<br />
<br />
<strong>4. Take note:</strong> Thomson instructs all beginner riders
to make a note of their bike set up on their phones once they have
perfected their settings. Take the time in your first few classes to
learn how to adjust the bike settings to suit your body type. A seat too
low or too high can strain your muscles and leave you sore. As a
general rule, the saddle and handlebars should align to your hip height.
Slide your seat forward or backward so that you are a forearm’s
distance away from the center of the handlebars. Finally, be sure that
when your leg is extended while sitting in the saddle, your knee should
only have a slight bend and never be fully straightened.<br />
<br />
<strong>5. Engage:</strong> Keep your core tight throughout your ride
by sucking in your tummy. An engaged core will feel the same as
abdominal muscles tensing up while laughing or coughing. “Keeping your
core tight is crucial for your balance and for improving your strength,”
says Thomson. Remember to keep your shoulders and neck relaxed so that
you can direct your energy to your lower body muscles.<br />

When I was in NYC last weekend Emma and I were so worn out by our busy days of touring that at night all we did was peruse documentary after documentary on Netflix. Vegucated was one of them and oh my GOODNESS was it an eye-opener. I'd seen Food Inc. before, and didn't want to eat meat (or anything for that matter) for weeks after. But Vegucated was somehow even more convincing. The documentary followed one woman who recruited three random New Yorkers to try be vegan. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
They investigated some truths about the meat and food industry which were pretty disgusting, but it actually showed how these three unique people managed to incorporate a vegan lifestyle into their average days. To be honest, I don't think I could ever fully become vegan. I believe that you should eat to live and eat to be healthy, but you only live once--enjoy it! I think I would miss healthy animal foods like eggs, cheese, and other dairy products WAY too much. And I don't think I could live my life without the full variety of Linden subs. But this movie definitely gives some good examples of how you can at least cut down and be more aware of what you are putting into your body. Check it out!</div>

NYC last weekend was great! I think the best trips are those with the least amount of planning. Expectations are usually non-existent (because you haven't had time to form any) so anything works! I feel like I got a pretty solid New York experience without being too over-the-top tourist. The funniest thing though was trying to pay with my Boston Red Sox themed debit card...that got a few comments.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

But hands down my favorite part of the weekend was high tea at Bergdorf's. This was super luxurious and so worth it. At first the stack of snacks in front of us didn't appear to be that much food. But we were stuffed by the time we reached the top tier so we snuck our desserts home. </div>

My lovely host! </div>

<br />
Last minute adventures has seriously been my thing lately and I don't hate it. Yesterday I was trying desperately to figure out what activities I could plan for myself this weekend in order to avoid dying of boredom while my roommates all participated in sorority recruitment. I literally had from Thursday at two p.m. til Tuesday morning free because of the long weekend and I knew no amount of binge-(re)watching One Tree Hill would satisfy me. So I bought a ticket!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=8043555727212029133" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgw99OISAfRiRTci3m-PoJVpHqiv7bCTQuqgreqS6GKqjFZ6Ypm49ooMymUjwFvr4YKKB0T-JVRkGMIL_9gWZBQx7YMurnJvixnrYfTK8sbyp-P4yTNmh09xTtDZ-OK2D_jMKr6dKu2WpQ/s1600/nyc.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgw99OISAfRiRTci3m-PoJVpHqiv7bCTQuqgreqS6GKqjFZ6Ypm49ooMymUjwFvr4YKKB0T-JVRkGMIL_9gWZBQx7YMurnJvixnrYfTK8sbyp-P4yTNmh09xTtDZ-OK2D_jMKr6dKu2WpQ/s1600/nyc.jpg" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
Tess lent me some black clothing and a leather jacket and my bags were packed.<br />
<br />
I am off to NYC to visit Emma!<br />
<br />
I am even on the bus as I type this on my handy new iPad keyboard.<br />
<br />
I am so excited. Even though I am not the biggest fan of the city I do appreciate it for a weekend adventure. And more importantly, I cannot wait to catch up with Emma. Considering how inseperable we were for almost all of Freshman and Sophomore year it is INSANE to me that it's been almost two years since we last saw each other. Time really does go too fast.<br />
<br />
I don't really know what we hve planned this weekend but she mentioned Tea at Bergdorf's which sounds fancy and also very British so of course I'm down. I'd love to see the Met and be a little touristy and of course have a proper NYC brunch (#eatingfortheinsta). No matter what we do I know it'll be great to spend time with a good friend and explore a new city. I'll keep ya updated!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17670725729024152412noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8043555727212029133.post-8172515937578061362015-01-14T18:18:00.001-04:002015-01-14T18:18:34.764-04:00New Year's Resolutions<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAfvPFMTDB1tru4MadTUdXbcXREepgn0Vu_liWCDupDQndQMz-AkzLhHYm4hwckA6iN5qYfgXV5WwBN-MqryZYC0H2EZnlRc9C6MotEpB3TCJlK3XzofRAXFuxor0LOKQz6Q2FBPLn8ZA/s1600/flowchart-REVISED2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAfvPFMTDB1tru4MadTUdXbcXREepgn0Vu_liWCDupDQndQMz-AkzLhHYm4hwckA6iN5qYfgXV5WwBN-MqryZYC0H2EZnlRc9C6MotEpB3TCJlK3XzofRAXFuxor0LOKQz6Q2FBPLn8ZA/s1600/flowchart-REVISED2.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
One of my New Year's resolutions this year is to waste less. In all aspects of life. Waste less time, be more green, but mostly waste less money. Cook when I could eat out, walk when I could drive, etc. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
But I think the main reason aspect of my life I want to apply this to is clothes shopping. I have so many pieces in my closet that I have had since the beginning of high school that I probably haven't touched since back when I was worrying about things like SAT scores and prom. They still fit and every time I go to throw them out I stop myself thinking maybe someday I will wear them again. So really my New Year's resolution has three steps: </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
1. Use Vogue's handy chart (above) to determine what stays and what goes. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
2. Sell nicer things on eBay and other things at consignment shops.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
3. Resolve to buy worthwhile pieces. Even if it means spending a little more, invest in quality items that will last and not go out of style. Waste less money on cheaper items that will damage or go out of style quickly. </div>

But,
technically, that means that there are only 172 days left to do totally
irresponsible things and have it still be kind of, technically, OK.<br />
<br />
That's
what I am telling myself anyway in order to justify spending what is
almost literally half of my life savings on an impulsive trip to
London--again!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi43XWt6UbM8w9rdx-lHbvivWx5iXSx7_uw1CFYk7QjQ9tcPTmsOfJC5F2sLNjUjuQWyQ1gm9YYjh0jLcDb1QlyGZ1pOZ2MmFsNPLWgfyGtPcFf9FDufLD1zcQA6mARxIqAup-8pFX34RY/s1600/c943e5789c2948c483e43b80f58a4051.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi43XWt6UbM8w9rdx-lHbvivWx5iXSx7_uw1CFYk7QjQ9tcPTmsOfJC5F2sLNjUjuQWyQ1gm9YYjh0jLcDb1QlyGZ1pOZ2MmFsNPLWgfyGtPcFf9FDufLD1zcQA6mARxIqAup-8pFX34RY/s1600/c943e5789c2948c483e43b80f58a4051.jpg" height="640" width="451" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I cannot wait.<br />
<br />
I've written about this before
but I think one of the best feelings in the whole world is being able
to return to a place that you thought you were done with. A good place. A
place with memories loaded into every sight, smell, sound, touch and
taste. Feelings that you never thought you'd be lucky enough to feel
again, except in your memories.<br />
<br />
That's how I felt returning to Hayward two summers ago.<br />
<br />
And that's how I feel about going back to London.<br />
<br />
Of
course I am already plotting out my trips back to the London Eye,
Buckingham, Harrod's, Westminster and all the other typical tourist
sights, but more so, I can't wait to see the things I thought I took for
granted. My old street, my 'home' tube station, the grocery store under
my flat.<br />
<br />
My parents weren't exactly thrilled about my investment
in exploration but when opportunity arises, I say take it, and figure
out the rest later.</div>

So as much as I am not really looking forward to summer ending and the new school year coming, the one thing I AM looking forward to is an excuse to shop! And back-to-school is jam-packed with such excuses. This year I am moving into an off-campus house with five other girls. We each have our own room with a double bed which means, sheet shopping! And I have found the absolute most PERFECT sheets to extend summer to all year long in my own little way. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjRPaXPKxUc06sxLsrvbQE63kT6285FsZUF7f73p367euZDlYWmleA9X-Rmv6dn_t5Rvdq0TtnD6BS6mLMrEXK3f1JPnNG_AT05AAnRLcMRxpl2DcI2S0ySRur9yhwNvPR5SbH-MfwQSk/s1600/farmers-market-bedding.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjRPaXPKxUc06sxLsrvbQE63kT6285FsZUF7f73p367euZDlYWmleA9X-Rmv6dn_t5Rvdq0TtnD6BS6mLMrEXK3f1JPnNG_AT05AAnRLcMRxpl2DcI2S0ySRur9yhwNvPR5SbH-MfwQSk/s1600/farmers-market-bedding.jpg" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Are you dying? You're dying. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
How crazy cute are these. I am in love, IN LOVE, with these sheets. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It's like my Taste of Summer blog post came to life reincarnated as SHEETS. I can't wait to order them. (And yes, these are from <a href="http://www.landofnod.com/farmers-market-duvet-cover/f14805" target="_blank">Land of Nod's Kids catalog</a>, and yes I am going into my senior year of college, thank you very much.)</div>

I was planning on writing my own guide to the things you absolutely CANNOT miss in Nantucket before Lewis and I headed down there in a few weeks buttttttttt <a href="http://blog.lillypulitzer.com/2014/06/26/nantucket-travel-guide/" target="_blank">Lilly</a> already beat me to it (and they did a pretty flawless job! What else is new?)! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixQfk1sHbzULH5QnTd52sBM0AIJzX9qEXRssWWVNPobCbbxJjQEedIUF47R_i3DnQz1MTZoiRCCxDW-7SaFVv9lJpxV2xRpjVn1njhKMQgbr1kWbZ__yFQVR2fz1Pzmpvg46zuiskGI3U/s1600/Nantucket_Cover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixQfk1sHbzULH5QnTd52sBM0AIJzX9qEXRssWWVNPobCbbxJjQEedIUF47R_i3DnQz1MTZoiRCCxDW-7SaFVv9lJpxV2xRpjVn1njhKMQgbr1kWbZ__yFQVR2fz1Pzmpvg46zuiskGI3U/s1600/Nantucket_Cover.jpg" height="640" width="640" /></a> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So, whether this is your 10th summer or your 1st, if you are lucky enough to be taking a trip to the best island on earth you should definitely read up. Top five on my bucket list this summer?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
1. Nobadeer: It really is "the party beach" and I love the atmosphere, the people watching, the waves, and the food. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
2. Something Natural: This is the one thing that Lilly missed! The #1 best sandwiches I have EVER, EVER had in my life. YUM!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
3. Cisco Brewery: Now that I am 21 I can fully enjoy the beauty of this place!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
4. Chicken Box: Can't think of a better way to end the perfect day on ACK than with a little party.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
5. Millie's: Yum. Yum. Yum. Yum.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
*6: And I want to get everywhere via bike!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
What's on your list? </div>

I believe that summer has a taste.<br />
<br />
And a feel. A and a smell. And a sound.<br />
<br />
It is an all-encompassing sensory experience.<br />
<br />
It is
the feel of sand beneath your feet. The smell of salty ocean air,
barbeques, and fresh mowed grass. It is the sound of waves crashing and
children playing. Of motors on boats and sprinklers on grass. <br />
<br />
But lately I've known summer has finally (FINALLY) hit because of the tastes. YUM!<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
This past weekend my best friends from school all made the journey down to Boston to visit me!
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We all went abroad different places and at different times so we haven't
all been together since Sophomore year--crazy! I also haven't gotten to
spend that much time in Boston in the past year between camp and school
and London so it was so nice to get reacquainted with everyone and
everything over the weekend. </div>

Last summer a camp friend invited a bunch of us over to her house for a 48 hour time off. We had a great weekend complete with beach side bonfires and even a trip to an amusement park but one thing that stuck out to me was a DELICIOUS breakfast her mother had prepared for us. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYHUgIUSxwoOcYRh0NzbHKz-etfrD3pLEiCrMLWzumNNKo1VdePZmLO3Ua0b25qA7b18fmLI1LGiU-5Mr2S0Ca6oSQIE6s1ALLOzVtyFU2C719iMdOyxlCkzAJdphTImhYsLCJInvdDN0/s1600/10415654_10153203749616808_6774254520610861889_n.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYHUgIUSxwoOcYRh0NzbHKz-etfrD3pLEiCrMLWzumNNKo1VdePZmLO3Ua0b25qA7b18fmLI1LGiU-5Mr2S0Ca6oSQIE6s1ALLOzVtyFU2C719iMdOyxlCkzAJdphTImhYsLCJInvdDN0/s1600/10415654_10153203749616808_6774254520610861889_n.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
French Toast Casserole. I swear it came to me in a dream a few nights before I went to camp the other day. I woke up and I knew I had to make it as soon as possible. It proved to be the perfect dish for the morning after my brother's high school graduation. Everyone was tired from the big day before and it was a beautiful sunny morning to eat out on the patio. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It's not exactly a low-carb <a href="http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/paula-deen/baked-french-toast-casserole-with-maple-syrup-recipe2.html" target="_blank">recipe</a> (or low-fat or low-sugar either for that matter) so it just makes it even more of a treat. Enjoy!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
A few weeks ago my mother and I went to our first ever SoulCycle class in the newly opened Chestnut Hill location.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
What. An. Experience.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I overhear a lot of Long Island-y type of girls from school talk a lot about SoulCycle or wear the little SoulCycle leggings or tank tops around to class, so I was always curious about what it was. My mother had acquired free passes to what is otherwise quite an expensive hobby? Addiction? Workout? All of the above? So one morning, we naively decided to give it a try. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
At $20 for your first visit they get ya hooked, and then raise the price to $37 plus $3 to rent the little bike shoes required for the special bikes. And as absurd as it may sound, I can totally rationalize why someone would want to spend $40 to get their ass handed to them by some guy named Chad with biceps the size of my torso.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Because you feel GREAT afterwards.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
But first you feel a lot of other things...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
First of all the room is dark. Like really dark. Music is BLASTING. And everyone, and I really mean everyone, was skinny, pretty, and dressed head to toe in Lululemon.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi70Lt-gxdlcXP33hv_vPu-EWQCqZBVQdzq9QHNdTEt6R2D6ZTkm7PGKFipy8VHFnr-qXHMiwBagCzD7ypAnXTo6P76rfW6TSVYVCzK5TPsW5lZ215XDzU_HdomrBmvUpJBL266y0UdcDk/s1600/soul-cycle-1.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi70Lt-gxdlcXP33hv_vPu-EWQCqZBVQdzq9QHNdTEt6R2D6ZTkm7PGKFipy8VHFnr-qXHMiwBagCzD7ypAnXTo6P76rfW6TSVYVCzK5TPsW5lZ215XDzU_HdomrBmvUpJBL266y0UdcDk/s1600/soul-cycle-1.jpg" height="418" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Picture taken from SoulCycle's website.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I kind of felt like I was at a frat party that was cycling themed. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The instructor (Chad) had his own little stage and a DJ set up next to his bike and the music was SO good, honestly the music is what made the class. We were encouraged to "pedal to the bass," which only made it feel frattier. It was also kind of like trying to dance while also exercising harder than possibly ever before...so oftentimes balance was kind of an issue.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
At one point Chad told us to reach behind ourselves for the weights strapped to the back of our bikes. I thought he was playing a sick joke but, no, there really were weights. He instructed us to "punch out our stress," with the weights which actually did kind of work.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Throughout the class I felt energized, I felt strong, I felt weak and like jelly, I felt like I wanted to smile do a little "woop!" like some of the other women were, and I felt like I wanted to cry. But after all that at the end I felt like I had reached some sort of catharsis. It was a full emotional roller coaster and I couldn't wait to ride it again. </div>

Every time I find myself back at camp I am convinced it will be my last.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdy1G6P6a3mVLEZ04wMnp5KLSIb1IwBdC9uZJbFvV3OZkXwddz-wIM5-rB_8QbnYnb84oLnWCfnwsKGjT_pPq6RseEEjlA2VWOFI86uKBui-fscPQQX876NmYrDqcByrFsF83SSjcmhw8/s1600/10303770_10153203749461808_385033952923974307_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdy1G6P6a3mVLEZ04wMnp5KLSIb1IwBdC9uZJbFvV3OZkXwddz-wIM5-rB_8QbnYnb84oLnWCfnwsKGjT_pPq6RseEEjlA2VWOFI86uKBui-fscPQQX876NmYrDqcByrFsF83SSjcmhw8/s1600/10303770_10153203749461808_385033952923974307_n.jpg" height="640" width="500" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I think that is why I appreciate being there more absolutely than nearly anything else in life. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Today I had the most perfect day back in my favorite place on earth. Being back there always feels like transporting back into my favorite memory. Like staring at an old photograph and actually being able to be back and live it one more time. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The people may come and go, new yurts may be built, old dining halls may be renovated but the spirit of camp never changes. Returners show wide-eyed new staff the ropes, accents mingle, bug bites are scratched, campfires burn. </div>

Who knows if this summer will truly be my last but once again I am so lucky and thankful to be back at a place where "the real world" doesn't matter, people are welcoming and kind, and everyone is given a chance. And like every summer, I hope to blur the divide with "the real world" and bring the spirit of camp with me through the rest of the year. </div>

Last summer, I lost two seriously essential summer staples. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
*Moment of silence for my <a href="http://jojolovesyou.com/asccustompages/products.asp?fav=0&fpage=1&page=1&productID=120&pStart=0&recNum=16" target="_blank">Jojo's Pearls</a> and my <a href="http://www.vineyardvines.com/mens-accessories-hats/twill-embroidered-whale-hat/887004336430,default,pd.html?utm_source=google_shopping&utm_campaign=pla&utm_adgroup=Apparel+Accessories+Clothing+Accessories+Hats&utm_term=Vineyard+Vines+Men+s+Twill+Embroidered+Whale+Hat&kpid=887004336430&src=google_PLAs%20-%20Men%27s&cvosrc=cpc.google.%2Fplas_-_men%27s&gclid=CjkKEQjwwbCcBRCxvJn9-N6dorwBEiQAVriOilc5i5aMuzZy9EVJFS2AYtvyUUlMggSoDtTfNy472wDw_wcB" target="_blank">white Vineyard Vines hat</a>*</div>

Hopefully they are both leading happier and more fulfilling lives down at the bottom of Spectacle Pond at Camp Hayward (although I doubt it). </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So, as summer has found its way upon us once again, I have been on the hunt for a replacement hat. (The earrings were replaced as immediately as possible over my soonest time off). </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It was a toss-up between a red Red Sox hat, the same white VV, or something new entirely. </div>

My mom's store, the Wellesley Holiday Boutique, has been carrying <a href="http://harding-lane.com/" target="_blank">Harding-Lane</a> for a while now. While I loved the needle-pointed patterns and classic beach-prep shades, for some reason I never actually got around to trying one on. But early last week I traded my mother a few hours of work in exchange for one of the lovely caps. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I love the color, the fit, and the fact that the strap at the back is actually made of an old boat sail! And what perfect timing, considering the sun is FINALLY shining, and I'm down the cape this weekend to start my internship at Cape Cod Magazine. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I think we will be very happy together. </div>

I'm baaaaack! </div>

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I missed blogging! I really did, but there was just TOO much to do in London and my bucket list was constantly calling. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I managed to cross off 72/78 things on it--including "See a pheasant in real life," "Eat a 'beigal' in Brick Lane," "Sneak into Trinity College Library," and "Go to (But not fall off) the Cliffs of Moher," but not, "Meet <a href="http://www.thelondoner.me/" target="_blank">Rosie Londoner,</a>" or "Eat all the chocolate at the Cadbury Factory," or "Eat a 'brownie' in Amsterdam," oh well, there's always next time... </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I promise I'll be back this summer filling you in on all my soon to be adventures. I'm back at camp for year #7 (how did time go so quickly?!), interning for Cape Cod Magazine in Hyannis, and am going mad posting all the wonderful things from the <a href="https://www.facebook.com/wellesleyboutique" target="_blank">Wellesley Holiday Boutique</a>'s social media accounts (<a href="https://twitter.com/wlslyholiday" target="_blank">here</a> and <a href="http://ink361.com/app/users/ig-805740835/wellesleyholidayboutique/photos" target="_blank">here</a>!). </div>

Until then, here's a little catch up of all my England adventures.</div>

I am so excited because I have some really fun things coming up! I was actually shocked to look at my phone this morning and realize that it was already March 1st. I feel like Valentine's Day was just a second ago. My family's visit and our trip to Paris came and went all too quickly, but here we are in March and time is sure to be flying even faster with all of my upcoming adventures.<br />
<br />
<b>Four things to be excited for in March...</b><br />
<ul>
<li><b>Mackenzie</b> is coming to London!!! I cannot wait to see my best friend abroad and here about all of her amazing adventures in Italy. I seriously cannot picture Mack a world traveler but now she is and I want to hear all about it!! We made her trip even more exciting by booking a tour at the Harry Potter WB Tour with her little Gabby as well. The <b>Harry Potter tour</b> has been on my bucket list since before I even got to England and I was bummed when it filled up over Love London weekend before I even had a chance to make the wait list. But the day is finally upon us! April 4th, 2014 we will be there, woohoo!
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="360" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/K7mLsvaaZ0g" width="640"></iframe>
</li>
<li>Now that it's March my trip to <b>Berlin</b> is coming up! I booked it with the school so I am pretty much guaranteed to seeing as much as absolutely possible in my little 72 hour journey. I don't know a soul on the trip so that should be a bit of an adventure in and off itself. I know I would probably never have traveled to Germany any other time in my life so I am eager to seize this opportunity and make the most of it. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuSVinwPDdvdCop-aSg6vn5mmZ9G8bc84NuB2aCDWE5NmCaK4dEbjnDDPGumdGHF1YGua1IYL9wRPJWnMLbbQ4Pp0SHFtyeA-4uj4jGgQ2hf-2kmWFPhGjghaAIylbGtf83YJCGZEkOGM/s1600/berlin_1771668b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuSVinwPDdvdCop-aSg6vn5mmZ9G8bc84NuB2aCDWE5NmCaK4dEbjnDDPGumdGHF1YGua1IYL9wRPJWnMLbbQ4Pp0SHFtyeA-4uj4jGgQ2hf-2kmWFPhGjghaAIylbGtf83YJCGZEkOGM/s1600/berlin_1771668b.jpg" height="400" width="640" /></a></div>
</li>
<li>Lewis and I booked our trip to Dublin about a month ago and since then I've been brainstorming all the fun things we can do there. We specifically chose a hotel with a pool so that we could have as much fun splashing around as we did at the Hyannis Travel Inn this summer, but more excitingly we just booked a day tour to the <b>Cliffs of Moher</b>. They look STUNNING and a couple of movies have even used it as a location (Harry Potter!). I cannot wait for the photo oppritunities that will definitely ensue. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

</li>
<li>Already Spring Break is less than a week away! On Thursday I am taking a six hour train to <b>Dundee, Scotland </b>to visit one of my best friends from camp, <b>Nicole</b>. We spent ten weeks this summer living in a yurt and working on the waterfront together and I can't believe how much time has already passed since. It will be so good to catch up.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

For a quick refresher here are the top ten coolest things I've done since January 28th...<br />
<br />
1. <b>The London Eye</b>: Oh my god. Amazing. Lewis, Marisa and I went as part of the Love London weekend that SU London puts on. We got reduced price tickets at only ten pounds and a VIP capsule so we didn't have to wait in the long line. The views were INCREDIBLE. We went right at sunset so we were lucky enough to see the sights both in the day light and all lit up once the sun set. The eye was definitely one of my favorite things I have done so far in England and I would definitely suggest it to anyone that is visiting for the weekend. <br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The beautiful views from the top of the eye</td></tr>

2. <b>Bike Ride Tour: </b>This was also part of Love London weekend and my roommates, Lewis and I all woke up early Saturday morning and took the tube to Westminster to do it. We biked all around the city and saw so many sights that I hadn't even seen before. Our tour guide stopped us every so often and told us a lot of interesting facts. We didn't quite realize how much of the city we had covered until later that day when we were up on the Eye and could look down and see where we had gone.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">

3. <b>Cambridge Trip: </b>Cambridge WAS SO COOL. The school puts on such
fantastic day trips and the fact that they're virtually free is
amazing. We met at Faraday at 9am and a bus drove us the 2 hours North
to Cambridge. The University was stunning and the whole town felt like
the olden times. Everywhere was so historical and castle-y. Kings
College Cathedral was stunning. I could not get enough pictures of the
stained glass everywhere. <br />

morning commute is still enjoyable. I find it slightly more exciting
than dreadful when the central line breaks down and I'm "forced" to take
the scenic bus route through Paddington. I hope that sticks. Today I
ended class around two and after my Monday of travel and lectures
yesterday I felt the need for an adventure. I'd read about the lesser
known branch of the Victoria and Albert Museum--the Museum of
Childhood-- in my tourist book and it seemed interesting. <br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

The museum was
in East London at a tube stop called Bethnal Green. Not the nicest of
places from what I saw but the museum was very easy to spot. At first,
besides the gift shop full of vintage inspired toys I didn't really
think the museum was worth my time. But as I wandered upstairs I found
the display on antique doll houses. OK, I know that sounds really lame
but ever since I was little I've always had a serious obsession with
miniature houses (does anyone remember Tiny Treasures?!). Tell me these

Next I decided to be spontaneous and travel to Camden. Besides Borough I
hadn't really been to a market yet until today. It was... Something. I
was trying so hard not to look as shell-shocked as I was while walking
around. It felt like the type of place where a independently touring
Kate could get lost and never get found again. I read in the tourist
book that it had a big goth/punk section but for some reason I didn't
really think that one through. Safe to say I definitely looked a little
ridic in my fluffy white Patagonia and leggings. All in all I'm glad I
explored today. Although my next trip to Camden I will definitely going
to be bringing a boy with me to ease my nerves (hi Lewis).<br />

Next up I want to visit Da Mario's Pizza in Kensington (apparently
Princess Di's pizza of choice), Spitalfield's, and the Kew Gardens. So
much to see, so little time!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17670725729024152412noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8043555727212029133.post-35697210781364415322014-01-28T13:38:00.002-04:002014-01-28T13:38:28.170-04:00All you need is LΦVΣΣ!<div style="text-align: center;">
