Summer Reading: May 2013

Having time to read for fun is one of my absolute favorite parts of summer. There is nothing I love more than setting up in a sunny spot at the beach with a good book. Every summer I try to read as much as possible, mixing my list with classics like The Great Gatsby and chick lit like anything by Jodi Picoult and Nicholas Sparks. I haven't been at the beach too much since I've been home from school (with the exception of Palm Beach) but I have still managed to get quite a bit of reading done.

This book was WILD and I can't wait for the movie that will inevitably follow. I don't want to give too much away, but I can promise that this is one of those books that you cannot put down. Next on my list are Flynn's other two books Sharp Objects and Dark Places.

Elin Hilderbrand's books are the absolute perfect summer read. Being from Nantucket, Hilderbrand bases all her novels on my favorite island. The little details she adds about the main characters visiting places like Something Natural and Cisco Brewery make me that much more excited to go on our annual trip! Definitely will need to stock up on a few of these novels come Nantucket.

This is what I am currently reading. Its definitely much better written than The Island but equally scandalous.

Perks of Being a Wallflower

I know this movie came out a while ago, but it came out for FREE at school this weekend. Transitioning back to college always makes me feel awkward so I was really in the mood to see this. I had heard that this was an excellent book but I had never gotten a chance to read it. But I was really not expecting to love this movie as much as I did. Emma Watson wasn’t nearly as annoying as I thought she would be. The boy wasn’t so awkward that I felt awkward watching him but best of all the soundtrack was INCREDIBLE. Not sure why it’s taken me this long to discover the band that my dad has always called “the original emo”–The Smiths. But the highlight on their single “Asleep” was SO GOOD. On repeat forever. Cannot wait to read this book.

July Books

I finished allllllll of my June books and they were all so good. After The Help there was a terrible span of two days where I was stuck in Marion with nothing to read, but now I am home and have had a successful trip to the library.

I used to hate the library because it didn't have the pretty displays and new book smells the bookstore had, but that was before I found the perfect solution to my Library Problem: I go to the bookstore first, make a list of all the books I would buy if I had any money to actually buy anything (let alone books), and then get them at the library. That way I don't have to spend hours aimlessly searching before getting frustrated, and then I won't have any buyer's remorse. See? Perfect solution. Here's what I've got so far.

I read the first one and it was kind of stupid but it held my attention, so why not.

Cause the movie is coming out soon.

So good. So so so good. Perfect summer read. Reminds me so much of The Last Summer.

BUY THIS

Everyone, stop what you are doing and go buy this book right now. I literally have not been able to put it down, for the past three days it has gone everywhere with me. And the movie coming out this summer looks great also!
